Mother Weaver

Mother Weaver is a short documentary film directed by Lily, commissioned for The Forgotten Her Story, by the founders of Hauser and Wirth Gallery.

Mother Weaver delves into themes of motherhood, birth and death through the relationship of Ursula Hauser and her daughter Manuella Wirth; and some of the female artists they have championed through their gallery: Pipilotti Rist, Louise Bourgeois, Luchita Hurtado, Ida Applebroog and Alina Szapocznikow.

 

Planet Blah

Planet Blah is a satirical film that recycles content from Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Variety Magazine and South Park - with the voices of a climate activist and climate scientist. The video uses deep fake technology.

Balls

A short fiction film directed by Lily, exploring the hypothetical origins of Wuthering Height's Heathcliff, based on the true stories of foundlings from 18th and 19th Century England.

A short fiction film exploring the hypothetical origins of Wuthering Height's Heathcliff - based on true stories of foundlings from 18th and 19th Century England that might have inspired Emily Brontë's character. Balls was commissioned by the Brontë Parsonage Museum and Foundling Museum, with support from RRU Liverpool and Impossible. It was produced by Fury Films. Balls exhibited in both museums to celebrate Emily Brontë's 200th birthday on July 30th 2018. Balls was selected as The Guardian’s Exhibition of the Week; nominated for Best Director, Best Producer and the XX Award at Underwire Festival; and nominated for Best Film in Official Competition, at London Short Film Festival.

The film director Joshua Oppenheimer (Oscar nominated for his documentaries about the Indonesian genocide: The Act of Killing and The Look of Silence) spoke with Cole about how the historical narrative of Balls speaks to our contemporary politics, the limits on collective empathy, and the power of film to change the stories by which we know the world.

A short film co-directed by Lily about a Cuban ballet school that dancer Carlos Acosta is seeking to restore. Made in partnership with Impossible and Nowness.

 

Wild Rubber

Directed by Lily, filmed in the Amazon, Brazil, on an 8mm camera as part of her work with WWF and Sky to look into developing the wild rubber trade.
